Idiotic Ideas are Pointless

by Cyberin on Mar.29, 2010, under Community

Ok, I can’t explain how stupid I think this idea is in a few words, so I have to respond with my own post.  Astral, over at Eve Trial by Fire, just posted an idea about how to mess with ninja salvagers.  And…since I’m rather experienced on the topic…I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it’s a fucking horrible plan…as well as pointless.

Isk is usually a side-effect of Ninjaing…it’s not a goal.  Our goal is Tears, and kills, and kill mails…so read on…

Recently I have been thinking about running a small sideline buisness in eve..now bear with me, because I havent trried this yet so im not 100% sure it would work, but if it does, it would be a fun way to piss off ninja salvagers.

This would not piss us off, it would make us laugh (specially when you fail…because I can guarantee you’ll never manage to kill a ninja that knows what he’s doing before concord pops you).  I’d also thank you for providing me with a killmail since I’ll shoot you before concord blows you up and whore the killmail for myself. (as will many other ninjas)

I would pick a region know for ninja’s, then advertise my “anti ninja service” for 10 mill a mission, if anyone decides they want me i buy a cheap t1 frig insured (a punisher most likely), fit it for speed and DPS then get them to fleet me so I can warp straight to them.

Another error here.  Do don’t fit suicide ships for DPS, you fit them for max alpha…which is why a frigate wouldn’t work.  Concord shows up quick enough that you won’t have a chance to do many volleys…therefor one big volley is normally better than one small volley.

I would then sit by a station away from the fleet while they run the mission..should a ninja show up, i get them to lock him (stop’s them cloaking) and get within 20 km i then warp in drop fleet and pop them before Concord pops me..basicly a suiside gank with morals!

A suicide gank with morals?  Really?  This is a game, and Ninja Salvaging is an approved profession…nothing wrong is going on technically…so there is not moral issue.

As most of the ships people use to ninja have paper thin tanks I think I could pull this off, while it would cost me about 3-4 mill a time (i’d use good guns) i could be popping ninja’s saving the mission runners 2-3 times that, and if im poping covert ops ships with nice probe launcher’s ..it will really upset them.
you could even offer 5 mill back if your not needed and make 5 mill for nothing..

This will not save anyone anything…except a mission runner wasting their isk for you to die, and if you succeed…for the Ninja to simple dock up, grab another ship, and go back to the mission knowing you can’t undock for another 15 minutes.

And popping Sisters Launchers?  If you manage to do that, then you have found a noob…not a ninja.  Ninjas do not salvage with their scan ships.

If anyone has tried this or has any veiws or advive id love to hear from you as i think this would be a LOT of fun and am seriously thinking about giving it a go next week.

I agree, this will be a LOT of fun.  I get free kill mails, I get to watch someone pointlessly kill themselves, and I get to salvage their wreck.  All the while knowing the Mission Runner paid 10 Mil Isk to watch it happen.

Seriously man, throw this plan in the garbage and realize you can’t do anything to a ninja to piss them off…we are pretty immune to caring about our ships dieing ;)

Ineffective? Sure, but at least it's more interesting than if he were to run missions.

I'm not sure I'd call the idea stupid, it would depend on the reasons for it. I certainly don't think it is worthy of a business, or that it would in fact actually “work” per se. But on the other hand, I'm no fan of ninjas either, unless I happen to be doing it at the time :)

OUTCH! So Mr. Ninja, in a world reversed how would YOU deal with Ninja salvager who decided to loot?!?!

Take a moment if you can to account how it would be if you were some how a mission running corp. and had some one like yourself to deal with.

I'd be interested if you could write a counter to your perfect methods to extract tears.

    Cheers

I will do this…look for it sometime in the next few days :D

I figured a ninja would have the gutz to do it. Or perhaps your reply is a blog scam and I'll be waiting for this until I die. :)

We shall see what a few days brings…

I have no reason not to do it really :D The people I prey on most likely don't read blogs :D

Lmao! Did I hit a nerve cyber? You seem to have taken this personaly. My idea is a sideline not my main idea for money making, also I understand ninja salvaging is an accepted practice by ccp, but having the option to be a twat dosent make it right.
As for appering you getting some credit for appearing on a concord kill mail? Seriously you missed the point, the idea here is to annoy ninjas while amusing myself, losing the ship I'd be in is THE PLAN, an as for the aggro timers I'm looking for a fight so that works for me too.

The idea isn't to stop ninjas just to make life a little harder an more dangerous for them! If you don't like it…. Good :)

This is essentially an “anything goes” game. They ninja and you pop them. Great idea IMO. Let us know when you set up shop.

    Speak for yourself, griefer.

  • CyberinEve

lol, no you didn't hit a nerve…:D I'm saying that this isn't going to work for the purpose you want it to. This will not annoy us, and it will not make our job more dangerous. Like I said…we expect to lose our ships…that's why we fly cheap ships ;)

And the aggro timers are not going to help you get a fight, the aggro timer will be a Global Criminal Countdown…meaning you can't undock…if you want a fight with a ninja all you have to do is ask, I don't know of any that would say no :D

oh look, Tears :D Thank you anonymous poster :D Grow some balls and respond back with your real details ;)

I'm kind of hoping this catches on…then I can put my 'mission ransom – super special service' idea into place…basically I'd scan down a mission and then offer the mission runner to pay me 5mil to not ninja his mission. hey, I can point out that it's half price of what astral is offering! Or perhaps the Ninjas can offer a 'ninja protection service' where individuals can buy immunity from ninjas (of course that doesn't apply to indy ninjas) for a day and for a set amount to let the mission runner spend another hour+ on each mission to salvage/loot it themselves.

Hey, under Astral's services, which are 10mil each (about what a normal serpentis mission makes in salvage and loot unless something really good drops), the mission runner basically is paying for the privilege of salvaging/looting his own mission and getting nothing in the end. Under my 5mil super special service, they at least get 5mil extra and the possibility of a 'good' drop.

Tarring words that you disagree with as tears won't make them tears. It'll just make you look daft. Dish out your false personel attacks all you like, but it doesn't disprove the fact that many of people out there Ninja for ISK.

Amusingly this entire blog post was the equivilent to ingame QQ'ing in local chat because some big boys said they'll beat you up.

  • CyberinEve

Maybe you should try reading more between the lines of my post. If you'll notice, I don't consider people that do it for isk to be real ninjas.

And believe me, I look daft quite a bit so it's really not a problem with me.

And what exactly is a false personal attack? I'm pretty sure me mentioning your lack of balls was a 'real' personal attack, there was nothing false about the attack.

And, I'm glad to see you have no reading comprehension as well, it fits you. I'd like for you to explain where I was QQing…because from my point of view, I was simply stating an opinion on why it wouldn't work for what he was planning it to work to. Personally, I'd love to see him and others do something like it…it just needs a bit more planning and finesse ;) .

Now, I'm tired of talking to a ghost…you should put your name where you mouth is ;)
